so i'm preparing a data collection sheet in excel and i need the participants' ages
so i've been looking up their DOBs in our CRM & then tediously entering it into a calculator to get the age and then typing it into excel
when i literally just now realized, wait, i'm using excel, i can just type the formula in the cell and have it put the age for me
sigh

How many languages do you speak?
You are always talking about alchemist that lived all around the world in very differente time periods. And you have mentioned several times that there's a ton of numerology hidden in their texts, counting syllables and letters of certain words and paragraphs. So one would assume you need to read them in the original language it was written, right?
That's a really good question! As with most really good questions, the answer is "kinda, it depends!"
So! Most alchemical texts are written in some form of coded language, but the nature of that code depends on the era and culture the text is being written in. Depending on how its written, modern scholars have a lot of different tools for cracking open alchemical esoterica.
Most ancient Greek/Byzantine texts are written in postclassical Greek. But, they're often written in dense philosophical prose. The reader needs to be familiar with the likes of Plato, Aristotle, and the early Neoplatonists, to make sense of them. Luckily for us, people have been studying postclassical Greek for nearly 2000 years. There are many excellent translations into English.
Late Egyptian alchemists wrote almost entirely in pictograph code. Not as in hieroglyphics, mind you. Egyptian alchemical recipes often made use of custom character sets and symbols that represented alchemical concepts. (One famous example, the Formula of the Crab, uses a complex diagram that looks like a centipede to represent a particular gold compound.) These are damn near impossible to read without expert help.
At the same time, Jewish and Syriac writers of the era could get by on the fact that not everyone could read Hebrew and Syriac lol. The language barrier itself acted as a sort of copyright system for protecting their ideas. Luckily for us, many of these texts were preserved and translated by medieval Arab scholars!
Speaking of Arabic, once you hit the Islamic Golden Age, the amount of alchemical literature increases by a factor of ten. Thing is, the Islamic Polymaths weren't all that interested in obscuring their work. The Islamic Golden Age was all about copying and translating older works, and compiling them into big textbook/dictionaries. They're not intentionally encoded, they're comparatively easy to read once you get a good translation. Thing is, you gotta know your Neoplatonism. Medieval Islamicate scholars love Neoplatonism.
Then we get the reintroduction of alchemy to Europe around the 10th century. What you get is about 400 years of monks painstakingly translating medieval Arabic into Latin. A lot of these texts are very well preserved, and have good translations into English.
Then, around the late 14th century, European entrepreneurial alchemy kicks into high gear, and THIS is where we get all those fancy numerology encoded alchemical texts. Renaissance alchemists loved themselves some puzzles. This would be fine if they were all just writing in Latin, but the printing press meant they could write in any damn language they please. You get a lot of French, German, Dutch, Italian, and antiquated English alchemical texts, and they can be a bitch to read without help.
BUT the introduction of the printing press also gave us something useful: cheap picture books! Late renaissance alchemists loved writing in word games and coded metaphor, but they also loved including esoteric diagrams. And the thing about esoteric diagrams is --if you know your stuff-- you don't need to speak 15th century french to read a picture. Which isn't a replacement for reading the original translation, not even close, but the explicit purpose of these images was to prove to other alchemists that the author knows what they're talking about. So if you can read them, you can get a damn good sense as to what the text is about.
This was fun to write so I'm gonna plug my patreon if you wanna see me write more about alchemy.

I used excel to generate some 3 dimensional analogues of the Sierpiński gasket, then constructed the outputs in Minecraft :D
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These fractals are embedded in 3D space, but they are not themselves 3 dimensional:
The diorite structure (left) has fractal dimension log_2(5) ≈ 2.3 (since each unit consists of 5 subunits at 1:2 scale).
The granite structure (right) is built from 4 half-scale copies of itself, so bizarrely its dimension is log_2(4) = 2.
As a consequence of its low dimension the 16x16x16 structure has a volume of just 16^2 = 256 blocks. The other fractal, also 16x16x16 but 2.3 dimensional, has a volume of 625. That’s beefier than the 2D one, but a solid 16x16x16 3D cube would dwarf it with V = 4096.
Tumblr media
Finally, since this blog is msexcelfractal and not msminecraftfractal, here’s the formula and blueprints I used for the 2.3D structure.

Some choice paragraphs below lol
“You are one in 8 billion, having unique God-given talents to achieve your purpose and fulfill your destiny. Your abilities are designed to accomplish something extraordinary. We aim to ignite your supernatural, energetic creativity by innovating unique formulas that deliver unparalleled experiences. Ai was designed to give you a burst of exhilarating and vibrant energy to drive you toward your destiny. Our unwavering commitment to create superior innovations has resulted in billions of brilliant beverages sold. Our success is driven by a deep understanding of how specialized ingredients work in concert to enhance excellence and attain awesomeness.”
“We all have a unique purpose and God-given talents to fulfill and carry out our destiny. Our talent is creating special formulas with highly specialized ingredient combinations that deliver an unparalleled positive consumer experience. The success of having sold billions of brilliant beverage innovations is driven by our obsession with highly specialized ingredients. I have studied these ingredients for over three decades and have a book discussing our 31 double-blind placebo-controlled gold standard university studies at prestigious universities such as UCLA, Florida State University, Baylor University, and many other great research institutions. I have wrote a book with 1,144 scientific references and consider myself the foremost authority in the world in this genre. I designed and managed our own highly sophisticated science lab as (CSO) Chief Scientific Officer, for the last 25 years employing as many as many 11 research and development scientists and product development specialists. This unique and deep experience has made me one of the foremost authorities in the world on how these specialized ingredients work in concert to deliver an unmatched consumer experience.-“
And finally one about how this can make your brain match up to the POWER of ai
“we realize that the gap is becoming infinitely greater between artificial machine intelligence and human intelligence. Because artificial intelligence is increasing at such a geometric and exponential rate, human intelligence will likely never keep up. However, I do believe Ai Energy combined with other factors like practicing an instrument or sport and engaging in other repeated critical thinking activities has the potential to increase brain power and human intelligence, both acutely and over time. Ai Energy is not going to solve the massive chasm that exists between artificial and human intelligence, but for me and others who have tried Ai Energy, it sure does help with mental sharpness, faster thinking, and just making you feel super good. On a personal note, I’ve been playing the drums since third grade. Using Ai energy drink has improved my speed and creativity on the drums beyond my wildest imagination.”
Absolutely this thing has to taste like shit

Review Ch. 281: "The Formula of Evolution."
Evolutionary Symbiosis
The chapter kicks off with Ego explaining genetic evolution. As we all know from our school biology lessons, every individual is born with half of their genetic material coming from their father and the other half from their mother. That’s the standard rule. But sometimes, copying errors occur, and children are born with traits neither of their parents possess. For instance, the child could have a small limb, an unusual height, or extraordinary speed. Usually, this child gets excluded for their differences and doesn’t pass on their genes when they reproduce. However, that unusual trait might be advantageous and perfectly suited to the environment. Something positive happens, and this trait proliferates through natural selection, eventually becoming a standard for the species. This process repeats over and over until the original species transforms into something entirely different. That’s evolution in a nutshell.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ego emphasises to Anri that we need to study and evolve; we can't stagnate, or else we’ll be eliminated by natural selection.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As mentioned earlier, those born with such traits often face exclusion and struggle to be understood by their peers; their lives tend to be tough. That distinctive trait could be a gene that allows humanity to evolve. This trait is something that simply can’t be ignored. These characteristics, these areas, generate unique expressions of both body and mind, and those who have them project these expressions to the world.
To Ego, those who possess such revolutionary expressions are what he calls ‘geniuses’. Nowadays, society believes that innovation isn’t something a genius can achieve alone. Someone has to discover that seed, understand its value, and communicate it to the world. By showcasing its viability and reproducibility, it becomes a global standard.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The concept of genius is transformative because it challenges the traditional view of genius as something isolated and solitary. For Ego, the true genius doesn’t just stand out because of natural talent; they excel because of their ability to recognise and exploit the potential of things others can’t see. That’s why the evolution of humanity doesn’t solely rely on geniuses; it also involves talented learners, who play a key role in adapting and applying a genius’s ideas to new realities.
Geniuses and talented learners must coexist. The latter are the ones who develop new tactics, using data to counteract the geniuses. This is where talented learners create plays based on that new type of logic.
The combination of geniuses and talented learners is the formula for evolution. They are always on the same stage. Within this stage, the talented learners have their own path to becoming the best in the world. This symbiosis mirrors how ideas and action complement each other in the process of evolution, both in football and in life. As we’ve seen with the characters in Blue Lock, geniuses aren’t just individuals with exceptional skills—they’re also those who know how to leverage their talents alongside others to create something even greater.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
At first, Isagi still believes that the geniuses around him on the field are unattainable. That is, until he realises that he’s always fought as a talented learner. He copies, analyses, and makes his own adjustments based on what he observes from his opponents.
Yoichi comes to the realisation that the geniuses on the field are battling it out amongst themselves, and none of them are going to pass the ball to someone like him. People just want to see that one perfect goal that’ll end the game. Isagi understands that he has to steal the ball himself, but again he’s outpaced by Loki, taking another hard hit to his reality. He starts to believe that he’s not capable, that he doesn’t have a chance as he watches Loki and Noa battling for the ball. He sees himself facing a genetic wall he can’t surpass.
This moment is pivotal because Isagi is confronting his deepest limitation: his perception of being just a learner in the presence of geniuses. However, this confrontation with reality is exactly what drives him to grow. Personal evolution, in this case, doesn’t happen through luck or innate talent; it’s about the will to push forward despite the odds.
Suddenly, Kaiser appears beside him, ready to challenge those two geniuses for the ball. Michael feels that the situation is unfair, but he heads into the thick of things, competing alongside the geniuses, because the genius and the talented learner coexist in the same space, unlocking their potential.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This last point highlights a fundamental idea: "geniuses" aren’t isolatedthey can be surpassed or complemented by those who, through learning and observation, adapt to circumstances and, at the same time, make the geniuses evolve. This struggle, which seems like an unfair fight for the learners, is ultimately what differentiates those who remain stagnant from those who reach new heights.
In conclusion, the chapter reminds us that evolution isn’t just a biological process; it’s also a constant battle between the established and the new. The key lies not just with the geniuses, but in the ongoing interaction between them and the talented learners, those who can observe, adapt, and transform the rules of the game. Isagi, in his confrontation with the geniuses, is not only facing a wall of skill but also the realisation of his own limitations. However, it’s in this very struggle where his true opportunity for growth arises.
Evolution, both in football and life, isn’t a fixed destination, but rather a journey filled with challenges and transformations. It’s the result of the coexistence of innovation and adaptation, how the extraordinary merges with the seemingly ordinary to create something entirely new. As Ego says, the key is not to stagnate, not to give in to the pressure from the geniuses, because even in adversity, the talented learner has the power to change the course of history. The real challenge is to keep evolving, to recognise opportunities to learn, and ultimately, not to fear being the one who challenges the established order to create something truly unique.

Unwelcome Ozian copied Fritz Springmeier and Cisco Wheeler - see for yourself!
For those who don't know, Unwelcome Ozian is a conspiracy theorist who has been on Tumblr since the early 2010s, presenting himself as a Project Monarch survivor and a sort of guide for others who believe they experienced the same thing. However, a number of people who put their trust in him report that he has engaged in predatory and harassing behavior.
Fritz Springmeier and Cisco Wheeler are two conspiracy theorists who wrote a number of highly influential books together in the 1990's. Whether or not you've heard of them, if you have heard anything about Project Monarch, I promise you that at least some of that information goes back to them. Springmeier and Wheeler made a number of absurd and hateful claims - such as that the Antichrist would be enthroned in the year 2000, that many immigrants were secretly Manchurian agents, and that Al Gore was a real vampire who carried around a briefcase full of blood.
I actually read their three books on Monarch programming (They Know Not What They Do: Illustrated Guide to Monarch Programming Mind Control (1995), The Illuminati Formula Used to Create an Undetectable Total Mind Controlled Slave (1996), and Deeper Insights Into The Illuminati Formula (1997). When I finally got around to taking a look at the work of Unwelcome Ozian, I immediately recognized it as the same stuff Springmeier and Wheeler were pushing. It wasn't just the exact same kind of claims - it was often the exact same text, with some very minor alterations.
Here are some examples of obvious copying:
Chainless Slaves: The foundation of trauma-based programming is fear. A deep spirit of fear cripples a subject spiritually and emotionally.
Deeper Insights Into The Illuminati Formula: The foundation of trauma-based total mind-control is fear. A deep spirit of fear cripples a person spiritually & emotionally.
Chainless Slaves: Subject’s who have been given a designated purpose in life will have their genealogies hidden. They will have programmed to have a cover life to insure they will not be detected.
The Illuminati Formula Used to Create an Undetectable Total Mind Controlled Slave: The Illuminati create mind-controlled slaves who are to function within the Illuminati hierarchy. These slaves will usually have their genealogies hidden, and will be created to have excellent cover lives to insure that they are not detected.
Chainless Slaves: Programmers will make a point of having the unborn subject hear the voices of individuals who will play a role in the programming. The subject may already know the hypnotic voice of one of their programmers at birth.
Deeper Insights Into The Illuminati Formula: This is why the Illuminati has made a point of having the unborn child hear the voices of people who will play a role in the trauma and programming of the child. The child may already know the hypnotic voice of one of its cult programmers at birth.
Chainless Slaves: The mind links together a series of mental processes. These links are called K-lines. Much of what the mind does is activate various K-lines so the mind can focus its conscious thinking.
Deeper Insights Into The Illuminati Formula: The mind strings together a series of "cognitive mental demons" that is a series of mental processes--similar to how a computer programmer writes a program. These strings have been called K-lines. Much of what the mind does is simply activations of various K-lines (a habitual ways of doing things), so that the mind can focus its limited conscious thinking.
Chainless Slaves: Another technique is to alternate leniency with harshness. When punishment is partnered with kindness, the effect is devastating and disconcerting because the subject looses the ability to predict what is going to happen.
The Illuminati Formula Used to Create an Undetectable Total Mind Controlled Slave: Another trick is to alternate leniency with harshness. This trick is done in the military also, and has been worked with success by the Chinese government upon the people of Red China. When leniency is alternated with kindness, the effect is devastating and disconcerting because the person looses the ability to predict what is going to happen.
Chainless Slaves: Alien Parts for contact, bonding w/ aliens and acceptance of mock alien invasion.
The Illuminati Formula Used to Create an Undetectable Total Mind Controlled Slave: Alien alters for contact, bonding w/ aliens, & acceptance of mock alien invasion
Chainless Slaves: Angel (imitation) Parts for divine messages, these may be seen as angels
The Illuminati Formula Used to Create an Undetectable Total Mind Controlled Slave: Angel (imitation) alters for divine messages, these may be seen as Spirit Guide alters
Chainless Slaves: GREEN or EMERALD GREEN. These are cat altars. They still see themselves as belonging to the cult family, and deny that they have been abused to protect their cult family
The Illuminati Formula Used to Create an Undetectable Total Mind Controlled Slave: GREEN or EMERALD GREEN. These cat altars recognize they have been abused. They still see themselves as belonging to the cult family, and deny that they have been abused to protect their cult family.
Chainless Slaves: YELLOW. These are the strong Christian alters of which there will only be a few in the System. They help serve as a balancing point to control the System as well as to hide what the System is all about.
The Illuminati Formula Used to Create an Undetectable Total Mind Controlled Slave: YELLOW. These are the strong Christian alters of which there will only be a few in the System. They help serve as a balancing point to control the System as well as to hide what the System is all about.
Chainless Slaves: Element Parts (Air or Wind, Water, Earth, Fire) for magick and compliance
The Illuminati Formula Used to Create an Undetectable Total Mind Controlled Slave: Element alters (Air or Wind, Water, Earth, Fire) for magick & compliance
Chainless Slaves: Satanic hierarchy Parts, to insure the occult part of the system is controlled and follows occult teachings
The Illuminati Formula Used to Create an Undetectable Total Mind Controlled Slave: Satanic hierarchy alters, to insure that system is controlled by Satan
This isn't even close to all of the instances of copied text in Chainless Slaves, but I think it's enough to demonstrate where Unwelcome Ozian is getting a lot of his material from.
If you're curious whether his book Rules of Programming has any copied material - I can confirm it does. I went through it a few months back and posted about it over here.
If you'd like to learn more about the origins of the Project Monarch mind control conspiracy theory, and how we know it's BS, you can check out this post over here.

I think one of the big issues with comics is that they have become far too serialized, with each run wanting to tell an ongoing story. I get the impulse, and some of those runs have been excellent for it, but I feel that's not how superhero comics are supposed to work.
Unlike manga, comic books seem more geared to merely showing the various adventures of these heroes, with a lot more done-in-one stories. They're less like Harry Potter, which was one big story in multiple installments, and more like Doyle's Sherlock Holmes books, where each story was self contained.
Yeah, they did evolve and change their characters throughout the sixties onward and many were great for it, but I'm starting to think they leaned too far in making things ongoing. Especially because they're reaching the point where they won't let the characters evolve anymore, yet won't just go back to self-contained adventures. They need to pick a lane.
Comics were always serialized. To the point where they used to just be called serials. And it worked fine for 50 years.
The main thing I think that ruined comics before the wokeness was the overuse of massive events. Comics used to mostly follow a very easy formula. Short arcs that last 1-3 issues, sprinkled with larger arcs that last for a few more issues. Then, massive event comics like Crisis and Secret War made bank, and Marvel and DC wanted to that money coming in. So they did sequels to their successful events. When those stopped selling, they created new events. The problem with the events is that they took over the normal weekly/monthly stories. Nothing mattered but the events, and if you had a status quo you liked, chances were the event was going to mess with that for shock value. Eventually, there ended up being at least one major event that covered the whole comic universe per year, usually with smaller events that covered a single book too. It got to the point where the events and the individual issues stopped selling, so they did more events with even more radical shock changes of beloved characters and stories. And when that didn't work, they decided to reboot their continuity to fix what they spent 10+ years breaking. (then in the case of DC, rebooted it three more times when everyone hated the other reboots). In the middle of this, they also went woke, and now we're where we're at with mainstream American comics. Most of them suck, and the ones that don't are only good until the writers or editors switch books, then the new person (usually Bendis or King) usually ruins them to put "their mark" on an iconic character.
I honestly don't know how you fix comics. Even removing the woke, left wing crap at this point isn't enough (though it's a good start) because there are underlying problems with how the medium is run and presented. Books are constantly late, with last minute revisions and sometimes multiple artists working on a single book before it hit shelves. The compensation for writers and artists is shit unless you're a top name with multiple books, and even then sales are often so bad they go months without getting what they're owed, so the talent pool is shrinking for all but the most iconic characters. Everyone wants to write Batman, but no one wants to write Booster Gold. And every time they have a "hit" (with sales numbers that would have been abject failures 20 years ago) everyone tries to copy the book that got big and further messes things up in other books.

beyblade burst surge: episode twenty-six
This will be a short one, because everything I could say about the final episode of Surge is said with simply watching the episode. Before writing this review, I watched a couple of videos about other people’s thoughts on Surge, and I can say this: this season is so much better than people give it credit for.
The confrontation with Lain and Shu at the beginning was the first time I’ve cried during a Beyblade episode since the season two finale. Their connection was so excellently developed and I think there’s nobody more fitting to have inspired and supported Lain through his arc. Hikaru and Hyuga genuinely had me choked up. The usual Beyblade formula for a final battle is a high-stakes, dramatic battle against the final boss, but I think this—a battle with no holds barred and a beautiful understanding about what battling means to them—couldn’t be more appropriate. I think it’s the battle they deserved.
The animation was incredible, but that goes without saying for a Beyblade finale fight. The way they incorporated the Bladers into action shots was definitely something they took from Rise and drove to new heights, which I couldn’t be happier about. Hikaru and Hyuga’s win felt incredibly deserved and I couldn’t be happier for them.
The ending scenes were adorable, per the norm, but when Shu and Valt are watching the sunset together and Valt promises that they’ve started a revolution, Shu throwing his coat to the wind is a bit of a mystery left unsolved to me. This is just a hunch, but I think it represents his burden and worry about the fate of battles (which is why he put it on once he lost to Lain and became his partner). Now, he knows the blading world is in good hands. And in my opinion, that security was the best way to finish off the season.
And that’s Beyblade Burst: Surge! Thank you for sticking around for my long-winded reviews and rambling notes, and it’s so fun to see people who love this series as much as I do sharing their thoughts alongside mine. I have two questions: one, does anyone know where I could get the Surge manga? Online or a physical copy is fine. And two, is it worth it to watch Quaddrive/Quadstrike next? I’ve heard bad things, especially the grievances I had with Surge amplified, but Pax, Pri, and Ilya interest me a lot.
I’ll do a full season review with my overall thoughts about everything tomorrow, along with where I would rank it among the other seasons. Thanks again!

If you're struggling with your bookkeeping as a small artist, writer, or creator, especially during tax season... I made a spreadsheet!
I've always felt like there was little to NO resources on how to deal with taxes and bookkeeping when my idea of a career is "charging random Twitter users 200 dollars to draw Rouge the Bat wider than she is tall", so in my incredible autism perseverance I spent months looking up all the info I needed to keep track of it all, finding out what "it all" even was, and then spent another 4 years slowly working on that tool...
I've created this Google Sheets spreadsheet in 2019 and every year during tax season I change it around to fit my needs better as a small creator and small business, I think I'm finally confident in it as a useful tool to share it with others that might need at least something to help them with this
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's pay-what-you-want with a minimum of CAD $1, I just ask for a small amount of support if possible since I've made this from scratch!
I'm sharing the online file because I could not figure out how to not fuck up the charts if I exported it in any file type, but if you'd like to you can export it and use it in Excel! You might just have to redo the charts :(
I hope this helps anyone even a little bit!
And if you have any advice on how to better this spreadsheet (for the general public, not for yourself, that's on you to edit into your own copy!), please let me know!! I taught myself Excel script, formulas, and editing so I can't really say I'm an expert lol

My art in Excel is based on Stephen Wolfram’s work using 1d cellular automata to print 2d fractals. The cells live in a single row and each cell decides based on its own value and its two neighbors’ whether it will be alive or dead in the next iteration. Arrange the iterations vertically and you can generate an image. For example, here’s my reproduction of Wolfram’s rule 150 fractal, where a cell is alive if exactly 1 or 3 of its parents are.
Tumblr media
Each row is a successive iteration of the automaton. I generated this image with one formula: B3=MOD(A2+B2+C2,2). Since it’s a cellular automaton each cell uses the same formula relative to its position: I type the formula once and then fill down and right. A 1 represents a living cell and 0 is dead so addition modulo 2 tells us if exactly 1 or 3 parents are alive.
But why stick to 2 values? Why not paint by numbers?
Tumblr media
Here’s B3=MOD(A2+B2+C2,3). Cells with value 0 are black, nonzero values are shades of green.
Tumblr media
B3=MOD(A2+B2+C2,5). All the higher prime number moduli look like this. This one is self-similar at 5x zoom.
Tumblr media
B3=MOD(A2+B2+C2,4). The original image is visible here but there’s some interference from Z4’s subgroup of order 2. We didn’t see this before because Z3 and Z5 are simple groups.
Tumblr media
B3=MOD(A2+B2+C2,9). It looks like a fancier B3=MOD(A2+B2+C2,3) because Z9 has a subgroup isomorphic to Z3.
Tumblr media
B3=MOD(A2+B2+C2,6). Since Z6 has subgroups of order 2 and 3, this image is the most complicated yet. There are copies of the original rule 150 fractal peeking through the holes - inside those copies every cell has value 0 or 3.
